Ingredients:
- 1 pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
- 6 cups peeled and thinly sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss well to combine.
- Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust and distribute it evenly.
- Dot the top of the apples with small pieces of butter.
- Roll out the second pie crust and use it to cover the top of the pie. Crimp the edges of the pie to seal it.
- Use a sharp knife to make a few slits in the top of the crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
- Brush the top of the crust with the beaten egg.
- Bake the pie for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
- Let the pie cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.
Enjoy your delicious homemade apple pie!
