Palak Paneer is a delicious vegetarian dish that is popular in North India. It consists of paneer (a type of Indian cheese) cooked in a creamy spinach-based sauce. Here is a recipe to make Palak Paneer at home:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of fresh spinach leaves
- 1 cup of paneer, cut into cubes
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1-2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 cup of plain yogurt
- 1 teaspoon of cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon of coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon of garam masala powder
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- 2-3 tablespoons of oil or ghee
- Salt, to taste
Instructions:
- In a pot of boiling water, blanch the spinach leaves for 2-3 minutes until they wilt. Drain the spinach and run it under cold water to stop the cooking process.
- In a blender or food processor, puree the spinach leaves until smooth. Set aside.
- In a large pan or wok, heat the oil or ghee over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and fry until golden brown, stirring occasionally.
- Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and chopped green chilies, and fry for a few seconds until fragrant.
- Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, and turmeric powder, and fry for another minute until the spices are fragrant.
- Add the pureed spinach to the pan and stir well. Let the mixture cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the cubed paneer to the pan and stir gently. Let the mixture cook for another 2-3 minutes until the paneer is heated through.
- Add salt to taste and stir well.
- Remove the Palak Paneer from the heat and let it sit for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve the Palak Paneer hot, garnished with fresh coriander leaves if desired. Enjoy with rice or naan bread.
