 Ingredients:

  • 1 lb pork belly, sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey or corn syrup
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Ssamjang sauce (Korean dipping sauce, can be found in Asian grocery stores)
  • Kimchi (optional)

Instructions:

  • In a large bowl, mix together soy sauce, honey or corn syrup, sesame oil, minced garlic, salt and pepper.
  • Add the sliced pork belly to the marinade and mix well. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours in the refrigerator.
  • Preheat a grill or a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Cook the marinated pork belly slices on the grill or skillet for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and slightly charred.
  • While the pork is cooking, prepare lettuce leaves and thinly sliced onions for wrapping.
  • Once the pork belly is cooked, place it on a plate and let it rest for a few minutes.
  • Serve the cooked pork belly with lettuce leaves, sliced onions, ssamjang sauce and kimchi on the side.
  • To eat, take a lettuce leaf, add a slice of pork belly, some sliced onions, a dollop of ssamjang sauce and kimchi, then wrap it up and enjoy!
Samgyeopsal is often enjoyed as a social dish with friends and family, where everyone can participate in grilling and wrapping the pork belly in lettuce leaves. Enjoy!
